Maternity information translations

mum and baby

Updated August 2024

Please ensure you are using the most up-to-date information from the NHS website along with a suitable interpreter.

We know that women from minority ethnic groups, refugees, asylum seekers and those whose first language is not English are at greater risk of poorer maternity and neonatal outcomes. We are working hard across the region to reduce these health inequalities, making birth safer and more personalised.

These maternity information resources aim to support our Afghan and Ukrainian families through pregnancy, labour, birth and the early days with their new baby. Using information on the NHS website (correct as of December 2021), the leaflets provide written information in Dari and Pashto, Ukrainian and Russian as well as English.

These resources are designed to support discussions between women and their healthcare professionals, facilitated by a suitable interpreter, to help them make informed choices about their maternity care.
