Our eagerly anticipated EIP (Early Intervention in Psychosis) event which was due to take place in Basingstoke on Wednesday 18 March, unfortunately had to be cancelled as a result of the ongoing coronavirus situation, and as an alternative we ran a shorter webinar session instead. Session 1: South EIP Annual report overview
Sarah Amani, Senior Programme Manager, South EIP Programme gave a brief overview of the 2019/20 EIP annual report for the south, highlighting important achievements and improvements whilst noting continuing challenges including around funding and reduced caseload. Session 2: Short update on PT SMI programme
Dr Katherine Newman-Taylor, Associate Professor, University of Southampton , Consultant Clinical Psychologist (Hon) Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust gave a clear and engaging overview of the national programme focused on psychological therapies for those with serious mental illness (SMI). The Long Term Plan has a commitment to ensure all those with SMI will have access to appropriate psychological therapies and Health Education England and NHS England aim to upskill the current and upcoming workforce in these areas. Her presentation explores the implications for trainers and services, commissioners and clinicians.

Session 3: Commissioning EIP Services
Paul Turner, Senior Commissioning Manager for Hampshire CCGs gave a fascinating and encouraging presentation on the importance of the relationship between commissioner and provider of EIP services, and having a common philosophy and shared ownership of challenges and risk when improving care for those with psychosis.
Paul Tabraham, Consultant Clinical Psychologist from Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust noted the importance of recognising that the commissioner and provider share the same aims and goals to improve care.

Session 4: Supporting recovery through education and employment
Lucy Ward and Anne-Marie Hempstead from the EIP Team at Isle of Wight NHS Trust shared some really great work the team is doing to support individuals to achieve the goals they want in education and employment. The importance of early intervention, flexibility of approach and collaboration with educational providers and employers was highlighted.

Questions and summing up
