On 17 June 2020 the South East Mental Health Learning Disabilities and Autism (SEMHLDA) Cell held a webinar on the CREST system dynamic modelling tool for children and young people’s mental health services.
It was an interactive webinar focusing on children and young people’s mental health services to support recovery and restoration planning in response to Covid-19. It was also a chance to demonstrate what the tool is designed to do, how you can use it with only a few basic metrics, and if changes in the service arise what the impact on that service provision can be. Different scenarios were presented to show that it can be used by all providers of children’s mental health services. The webinar aimed to provide attendees with the information that you can then take away to help planning future service provision and how you can consider hypothetical scenarios within your system.

Please also find below a link to Children & Young People’s Mental Health Restoration & Recovery Planning Summary of Relevant Literature & Emerging Evidence (2020) that was referred to in the webinar, which helps services further to plan for the potential impact of Covid-19 . This has been produced by Dr Gavin Lockhart, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead CYP Mental Health, NHS England South East Clinical Delivery Network/Mental Health Cell/Health Education England, Kent, Surrey & Sussex and Victoria Sopp, Research Assistant, University of Sussex/Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust.
The paper collates key literature and findings in relation to the current and predicted psychological/mental health impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated safety measures on Children and Young People (CYP), to aid in both predictive modelling and restoration and recovery planning. It draws key findings into a synthesis, summary, and suggested next steps. We hope that it will be useful to you and your colleagues across the CYPMH system. This is a live document and any feedback or signposting to additional resources for future versions is most welcome.
