Temitope Sholanke , BSc RN (Children)

With over 15 years of experience as a paediatric and neonatal intensive care nurse in a London tertiary neonatal unit, Temi has served as a Senior Sister. She is passionate about improving care and advocating for neonates and their families. Currently, she works as a Neonatal Care Coordinator at the Neonatal Operational Delivery Network.

She has a strong commitment to family-integrated care, equity, and inclusion for all families, with a particular interest in the findings of the MBRRACE report, which highlights that ethnic minorities and families from areas of deprivation have undesirable health outcomes. She has had the opportunity to present neonatal projects at an international conference, led and collaborated on building a local neonatal website that integrates with maternity websites and secured funding for the project. Additionally, she has participated in the jaundice in darker skin tone babies event in Kent and Medway.

Dedicated to promoting perinatal collaboration, she ensures a seamless transition through the maternity and neonatal journey for both neonates and their families. Her goal is to improve family experiences and ensure equity for all families.

She believes in the importance of addressing organisational and cultural considerations to enhance maternal and neonatal safety, as emphasised in reports like Ockenden and Kirkup. Her approach is grounded in compassion and empathy, ensuring that families feel heard and supported.

Recently, she became a member of the NHS Race and Health Observatory. The NHS Race & Health Observatory works to identify and tackle ethnic inequalities in health and care by facilitating research, making health policy recommendations, and enabling long-term transformational change.
