Farzana Munir

Midwife

Farzana is an experienced midwife at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, where she has dedicated 13 years to her profession. She works in a diverse area with a significant population of women and birthing individuals from the global majority. This environment has fuelled her passion for ensuring that all women and birthing people from the global majority receive safe and equitable care, while also striving to enhance equality, diversity, and inclusion for staff from similar backgrounds.

In her role, Farzana serves as a Royal College of Midwives workplace steward and is an active member of the staff-side negotiating committee at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Farzana plays a crucial role in developing policies that impact employees and evaluates NHS roles across various levels, from band 2 to band 9. She is well-versed in the current challenges facing the midwifery workforce, including limited career progression for staff from the global majority, bullying, and high burnout rates.

Additionally, Farzana is a member of the Frimley LMNS Equity steering group, where she contributes to projects aimed at improving care and outcomes for women from the global majority, as well as enhancing the experiences of staff from these communities at Frimley Health. As part of the South East NHS expert reference group, she brings extensive knowledge and expertise regarding the issues faced by both the global majority workforce and women from these backgrounds. Farzana is driven by a commitment to amplify the voices of underserved populations, advocating for tangible changes that benefit women and birthing people while ensuring that staff from the global majority have equal opportunities for progression, development, and a sense of belonging within the NHS.
