Specialist Midwife for Equity, Diversity & Inclusio
Carina is a Specialist Midwife for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) at Oxford University hospitals and a member of the Maternity & Neonatal stakeholder council for the 2024-2026 term. As a specialist EDI midwife, Carina supports the maternity unit in achieving equitable health outcomes for all groups, creating an inclusive work environment for staff, and improving staff diversity. She is also working with Social Finance to tackle racial health inequities via the Maternity Transformation Partnership.
In partnership with Oxford Brookes University, Carina has co-authored two papers in the Journal of Nurse Education Today 2023. She volunteers her time with RCM and HEE to improve the diversity and experiences of midwifery students in the UK and is a contributor to the RCM’s Decolonising Midwifery Curriculum toolkit. In 2019, Carina co-published ‘‘New to the UK’ in All4Maternity Blog, Midwife’s Page.
Carina’s key focus is addressing disparities in maternity outcomes by tackling inequities in maternity services, staff experiences, and midwifery student recruitment.
