Time to check your blood pressure

High blood pressure puts extra strain on your heart and blood vessels – this is called hypertension. Over time it can lead to a number of health problems including heart attacks, stroke and kidney disease. A third of adults in the UK have hypertension and don’t realise they have it. It can be a silent killer as usually there are no symptoms, so knowing that you may have high blood pressure and taking steps to manage it could save your life.

There are a number of ways that you can manage high blood pressure and lead a normal, healthy life. It’s important to understand what blood pressure numbers mean, what levels are safe, and how to measure your blood pressure, for example at home or maybe at your local pharmacy – and also how to work with your GP practice if your blood pressure is high.
