This draft report explores the differences between men and women in their general health and the health care they receive. There is evidence that different approaches need to be taken to encourage men to seek early help for certain conditions. But there are gaps in our knowledge and more information is needed for the NHS to adopt more personalised approaches by gender if we are to see the reductions in mortality that we think are possible.
Can we work together to take on the challenge that more men die younger than women?
This draft discussion report was a senate and clinical networks inspired initiative which has been developed with engagement with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight STP Clinical Executive Group and Dorset ICS. We are currently consulting stakeholders identified by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight STP on this work. Our aspiration is that the final report will be fully adopted by HIOW STP and Dorset ICS through their strategic delivery plans and their priority setting processes.
*The NHS is not the only organisation which influences the heath of the population. Latest estimates show that 50% of health is dependent on socio economic factors, 25% is dependent on health care, 15% is dependent on our genes and 10% on our environment. This means that in order to improve health care we need organisations who can influence these aspects to pledge that they will take action and implement the recommendations in our report.
