Midwife

Guramrit is a dedicated member of the expert reference group, bringing a wealth of experience from all areas of maternity care, ranging from community settings to high-dependency care. Her career takes her from Bradford, a densely populated area with a majority of BAME women, to the southern regions of the UK. This diverse background allows her to provide valuable insights and perspectives.

As a Sikh, Asian midwife in the NHS, her personal and professional experiences uniquely position her to advocate for and improve outcomes for both staff and patients. Part of her role in the expert reference group is to support her colleagues and advocate for women’s rights and midwives’ rights, especially for BAME individuals. She is passionate about making changes to the narrative of the NHS to ensure every person is treated with respect and dignity and has equal opportunities, regardless of colour, language, or any other barriers faced.

She aspires to work within the expert reference group and in her own trust to tackle inequalities and indifferences. Her commitment to retention in midwifery drives her to find ways to reduce turnover and enhance the working environment for her peers.
