Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Midwife
Shanice is an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Midwife for Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, a lead role responsible for achieving equity of health outcomes for all social groups accessing Maternity Services across Oxfordshire. In this role, her work involves educating, supporting, and empowering maternity staff, students, and service users through various projects and initiatives. As part of this role, Shanice is part of the award-winning co-produced initiative Early Start (previously known as Early Lives, Early Start); pioneering the work of healthcare being accessible by being integrated into the community. Shanice is also a Research Midwife for The University of Oxford, specialising in research within the Nuffield Department of Women’s and Reproductive Health, during which she was the first-ever recipient of the Award of Excellence for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion in 2023. In addition, Shanice is an Associate Midwifery Lecturer for Oxford Brookes University, where she co-authored and co-delivered a tailored lecture entitled “Racism” for third year midwifery students.
Shanice is a member of the South Region NHS England Expert Reference Group, recognized for her expertise in Equality, Diversity & Inclusion within Midwifery, particularly in addressing maternal and neonatal inequalities. She is also a member of the CNO CMidDO BME Strategic Advisory Group NHS England and Health Education England: GEM student experience steering group. She is also among the first cohort of the ELEVATE leadership programme, having previously completed the Turn the Tide mentorship programme.
A woman passionate about supporting underserved individuals, inside and outside of the workplace, ultimately, to drive tangible change with the view of reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes for all.
