This winter we’re facing an unprecedented challenge with Coronavirus. This challenge is an addition to the existing pressures seen year on year over the winter period as the demand for frontline services tends to increase significantly with the onset of cold weather and flu.
To mitigate this as best we can, NHS England and Improvement South East has launched a three-month lung health campaign to tackle a surge in respiratory emergency admissions across the region. We recognise that the population is in a state of heightened health awareness and so there has never been a more important time to communicate how people can take the necessary precautions to stay protected.
The campaign is structured into two different strands; #KeepWarmKeepWell and #QuitforCovid.

“Keeping your house warm directly affects your lung health. It is essential to maintain a steady temperature (18°C) at this time of year to prevent lung infections and heart disease, this has never been more important than during the Covid pandemic.”
Dr Richard Russell, Consultant Physician and Respiratory Lead for NHS England South East

“Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do to improve your health. Quitting can be hard, so it’s important to explore the treatments available and keep trying. If one method doesn’t work, try something else. There’s plenty of support available, so you don’t need to go it alone.”
Jessica Kirby, Head of Health Advice at Asthma UK and the British Lung Foundation
